I’m Dr. Pretty Basra. CEO, entrepreneur, mentor and a TedX Speaker, I’m one of the few optometrists in the UK to own a thriving independent optical practice. And to my knowledge, the only one to have successfully integrated a full aesthetics clinic within an opticians, bridging the worlds of vision, skin, and confidence under one roof.
I’m the founder of The Mental Fitness Academy and
7 Figure Optical Practice Mastery, created to elevate leadership and business growth in optics.
But here’s what truly sets me apart:
I believe lasting business success isn’t just about strategy, it’s about mental fitness.
Over the past decade, I’ve overcome breakdowns, debt, and doubt to build thriving businesses in some of the most competitive industries.
That journey taught me that resilience, focus, and the ability to train your mind like a muscle are the real foundations of growth.
This hub is your gateway to everything I do:
My story proves you don’t need a business degree to achieve success.
What you do need is mental fitness, resilience, and the right support.
Explore my world. Learn how to build yours.
HOW YOU CAN WORK WITH ME
There are different ways to grow, this is where you choose yours.

J Wogin - Dispensing Optician
"Pretty is an inspirational human! She is tenacious, innovative and collaborative in her approach to business and healthcare. She can help you build your confidence in a relatable way. You only have to look down at her list of achievements over the last decade going from rock-bottom to the top of her game to realise that, if she can bring the best out in herself and her team, she can do the same for you and your teams."
I Hawthorne - Portfolio Optometrist
"I’ve known Pretty since our university days. As a female business owner I've followed her LinkedIn content as a passionate advocate for women in business, using her platform as a successful optometrist to inspire and empower others. I particularly enjoy her genuine, direct and candid approach to delivering her message."
P Greedy - Coach & Consultant
"Since knowing Pretty I have observed her to be an extremely knowledgeable and skilful practitioner and leader within our profession. She has a humility that belies her talent and determination to make a huge contribution to each situation she is in, whether as a practitioner, CEO of the business she founded, a podcast host, GOC panel member and Chair of South Yorkshire Optometry Forum."
A Fitzgerald - Chief Exec
“First thing is I thought you did a great job , and I have heard good feedback from others – thank you
I felt presentation had good combination of specific content , practical examples , and a good dose of humour which I always find important in presenting.
T Breese - Founder
I just wanted to say thank you for a really interesting talk on Thursday. It was great to hear your story and how you've overcome challenges and others opinions to build your business.
J Baxter - Marketing Manager
I really liked your point about only needing to be 70% ready to take action, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I know that can hold me back. I also found the 3 point weekly action plan you outlined incredibly helpful.

How I Can Help You Succeed
Success isn’t built on strategy alone, it’s built on strength of mind.
Whether you’re leading a team, launching a business, or rediscovering yourself after burnout, I help you build the clarity, confidence, and conviction to lead with purpose.
Here’s how we can work together:
Profit & Growth Consulting for Opticians
Running a successful practice takes more than just great patient care. I work with opticians to maximise profitability, streamline operations, and build a thriving business that works for them, not the other way around. Whether you're launching your first practice or looking to scale, I’ll help you implement strategies that drive real growth.
Mental Fitness for High Performers
Because how you think determines how you thrive.
I work with professionals across healthcare and corporate sectors to build mental fitness, the ability to handle stress, bounce back from setbacks, and stay calm and clear under pressure.
Through neuroscience-backed tools and practical strategies, you’ll learn how to manage your inner critic, prevent burnout, and sustain success without sacrificing yourself.
Leadership & Empowerment
Leadership isn’t about hierarchy, it’s about impact.
I help current and emerging leaders develop emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and communication strategies that inspire others.
From resilient leadership to navigating imposter syndrome, these sessions help you lead from authenticity, not exhaustion.
Optical & Healthcare Entrepreneurship
Purpose and profit can co-exist beautifully.
Having built a seven-figure optical practice and a multi-figure aesthetics clinic, I now mentor healthcare professionals ready to grow their own successful ventures.
I’ll help you refine your strategy, elevate your patient experience, and build a premium, profitable business that truly reflects you.
Empowering Women to Lead Boldly
Women bring empathy, adaptability, and intuition, qualities the world needs more of in business.
My work helps women step into their power, set boundaries without guilt, and build the mental and emotional resilience needed to lead boldly, at work and in life.
Keynote Speaking & Corporate Events
Inspire. Empower. Transform.
As a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, I deliver thought-provoking sessions that blend neuroscience, storytelling, and strategy.
From corporate leadership teams to healthcare organisations, my talks are designed to shift mindsets, spark conversation, and build mentally fit cultures.
Popular topics include:
-
“Mental Fitness Over Perfection” – Building resilience and emotional agility in a high-pressure world.
-
“Turning Setbacks into Opportunities” – How to fail forward and create momentum from adversity.
-
“The Female Advantage” – Why empathy, adaptability, and intuition are the new leadership superpowers.
-
“The CEO Mindset” – Thinking, deciding, and performing like a 7-figure leader.
Every keynote and workshop is tailored to your team’s needs, interactive, relatable, and always outcome-driven.
K Mistry - Retail Design Manager
I found it really interesting and comforting to know there are women out there who I can resonate with. Not always easy to find like-minded women, especially in the creative/construction industry.
M Shamim - Optometrist
I just wanted to say how amazing it is that you’ve created this community for women in optometry. It’s inspiring to see a space where we can connect, support each other, and share experiences.
T Suran - Digital Transformation
I can’t thank you enough for today’s session, it honestly came at such a perfect time and I really look forward to sitting down tomorrow/ this weekend and implementing all the wonderful strategies you kindly shared

![You can be exhausted and still feel guilty for resting.
When your self worth is tied to achievement, slowing down can feel uncomfortable even when your body needs it.
Ask yourself: “If I did nothing productive today, would I still believe I was enough?”
That answer might tell you more than you think.

For a long time, I thought being financially responsible meant working hard, earning well and being careful with what I spent. Then I realised that my time was still the thing creating the income.
That changed the question I asked myself.
Instead of only thinking about how much more I could earn, I started thinking about what I could do with the money I was already earning so it could grow beyond my time.

![Sometimes the things you’ve learned to call your personality are actually ways you learned to feel safe.
Overthinking a conversation before it happens, feeling guilty for having a boundary, or struggling to relax when you don’t know what’s coming can all be patterns worth paying attention to.
That doesn’t automatically mean they’re trauma responses, but if you recognise yourself here, it may be worth getting curious about where these patterns came from instead of judging yourself for having them.
4 more behaviours to notice:
5. Automatically saying “sorry” even when you haven’t done anything wrong.
6. Feeling responsible for other people’s moods and immediately trying to fix them.
7. Finding it difficult to ask for help because needing someone feels unsafe or uncomfortable.

8. Staying busy because slowing down leaves you alone with thoughts or feelings you’ve been avoiding.
